Volunteers Corner - Pete Hall

14/09/2018

This edition we get to know a little bit about Club member and volunteer Pete Hall who is a valuable member of our volunteer network.

Pete began volunteering at Carbrook Golf Club some 7 years ago when he joined the Monday Crew, who on a roster basis, sand and repair our tees and refill the sand bins every Monday morning. Pete also assists on “special projects” days, usually in the cooler months when dead or unwanted trees are removed, and after a big blow when fallen trees and branches have to be cleared from the golf course.

Peter Hall - Club Volunteer

Pete’s big go however is his involvement in the ongoing weed eradication program. Most Tuesdays, you will see Pete about the golf course spraying for paspalum, crows foot and summer grass. This is done systematically and the excellent results are there for all to see. You may also see him with his wick wiper dabbing the wiregrass that infests all golf courses if allowed to go unchecked. The weed eradication program received a huge set back as a result of the 2017 flood, but with the help of volunteers like Pete, the Club is now back on track with the aim being to rid the course of most of the weeds permanently.

At Carbrook we are always looking for volunteers to help our greens staff both maintain and improve our golf course. Tasks include sanding tees on a Monday morning, course marshall for a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday morning, spraying, wick wiping and pruning and clearing of unwanted trees or maybe you would like to be trained to operate one of our mowers and assist in the mowing of the tee and green surrounds and the rough.

If we had just 10 volunteers prepared to wick wipe the wire grass for just 30 minutes per week we would be able to eradicate it almost completely in a couple of years. If you think you might like to help please contact the Greens Director on 0419 714558 for details.
