Vets News - March 2019

06/03/2019

Joyce Hill

Vets have lost a much-loved member in February this year. Joyce had been a Vet member for many years and enjoyed her Thursday golf competition. Much to her delight, Joyce recently achieved a hole in one in a Thursday Vets competition. Joyce also contributed to the Carbrook Vets and served on the Vets Committee for a period of time. The garden at the entrance to the club was established by Joyce and with the assistance of other lady Vets created a valuable asset for the club. Thanks to her good friend Carol Pearce and others who are continuing the vision that Joyce had for the welcoming garden. Joyce will be sadly missed by all Vet members.

A reminder that Harcourts Living, Shop 8 Riverlakes Shopping Village Cornubia is a new sponsor of the Carbrook Veteran Golfers. Harcourts will be sponsoring the Single Stableford event to be conducted 4 April 2019.

2019 Queensland Veteran Golf Union Playing Fees
Your 2019 Albert and Logan fees are now due. Please ensure they are paid prior to or on your first competition day. To be eligible for prizes/NTP and ball rundown you are required to be 2019 financial.

Away Game
On 4 July the course will be closed for the purpose of running the Queensland Junior Championships event. There will be no Vets competition at Carbrook on that day.
Arrangements are being made to conduct an away game/Vets competition at Palm Meadows Golf Club. Arrangements are still to be finalised, but the Committee is intending to partially subsidise the playing cost for members with an estimated cost per head to be in the mid $40s. This day will include 18 holes of golf with a shared cart and a shot-gun start. Normal Vet day prizes will apply.
The Committee will be providing more details of the arrangements soon. Please enter the event into your diary.

Playing Field Numbers
Vet members are continuing to raise concerns about availability of playing positions in the Thursday competitions. You can be assured that the Committee is listening to and responding to your concerns. Your Captain Glen Early is, in partnership with the Pro Shop closely monitoring playing registrations and addressing the identified issues. Please assist with this process by booking early and cancelling early if you will be unable to play. Please place your name on the waiting list to take advantage of any cancellations.

Handicap Divisions
Reminder that as of 1 February 2019, the following divisions apply for all Vets competitions. They are:
Division 1 - 0 to 17
Division 2 - 18 to 24
Division 3 - 25 to 36
Ladies - unchanged

Morning tea/coffee
We still have no volunteers to replace Grahame Hopper in the organising of tea and coffee for all players in the Thursday competition. We do need your support. Grahame has been undertaking this service for many years and I am sure has been greatly appreciated. Time to relieve Grahame of this task. Should you be interested in supporting morning tea/coffee provision, please make yourself known to a Committee member. Without support this service may have to be discontinued.
