Vets News - April 2019

I guess you do not need reminding but playing conditions during the last month can only be described as challenging.

This had nothing to do with the course presentation, which I am sure you will all agree, due to the dedicated ground staff and the many volunteers, has been at the normal high standard that we have all come to expect. The unseasonal heat and humidity that we have experienced during March has been the main contributor to less pleasant playing conditions.

We play golf for enjoyment, to test and demonstrate our skills in the sport, to socialise with our friends, not to complete the round at any cost even though we feel poorly due to exposure to the hot and humid conditions.

Cover up, use sun screen, drink plenty of water and stop if your body is telling you to do so. Finishing is not always necessary as I am sure we will have the opportunity to play again on more pleasant days. We all look forward to better playing condition during April.

Golf Carts - Shot Gun Starts

For those people using carts on shotgun start days it would be appreciated if you would book a starting hole further away from the close tees ie: 1, 2, 10, 11, 13, and 18. This will enable the walkers to book closer tees which will reduce the walking distance both before and after their round. The walkers will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

President's Trophy

Due to the cancellation of the second round of the President's Trophy resulting from inclement weather, the Committee made the decision to cancel the competition this year with no winners being declared. The difficulty of rescheduling the second round and the problems associated with bringing the four-ball partners together in the future greatly influenced the decision. The Committee does apologise to players who considered that they were in contention. The Committee would like to assure members that decisions will be made to ensure that the 2020 President's Trophy competition goes to plan.

Away Game - Palm Meadow, 4 July
As previously advised arrangements have been made to conduct an away game/Vets competition at Palm Meadows Golf Club on Thursday 4 July. The cost to play on that day will be $45.00 which includes green fees and a shared golf cart. Normal Vet day prizes, including NTP and Approach Shots will apply. Information regarding the day will be circulated from Thursday 11 April.
Commencing on 11 April you will be able to register for the Palm Meadows day. A deposit of $20 will be payable when registering, with the final payment, total of $45.00, due by 29 June. When registering you will be able to select playing partners.

Harcourts Living sponsored Day
On Thursday, 4 April the successful Harcourts Living sponsored day was conducted with 114 people playing in the Stableford competition. This included two representatives from Harcourts Living, Ashleigh Floyd and Alex Carter, who played with our Captain and Treasurer. We welcome Jill Carter, Principal of Harcourts Living Cornubia, Riverlakes Shopping Village and her team as a sponsor in 2019 and it is hoped that the Harcourts Living/Vets relationship continues beyond 2019.
Following the rain early in the week it was great to have a sunny day for the event. A good time was had by all who attended including those who played and Dave Polden, Corina Perry and Vaughan Perry from Harcourts Living who conducted a meet and greet with the players at the seventh tee.
